Peatmoss
Peatmoss is a lightweight, organic substrate from decomposed sphagnum moss, renowned for its high water-holding capacity (up to 20 times its weight) and excellent aeration, making it perfect for potting mixes and seed starting. It improves soil texture in heavy clays or loose sands, retaining moisture while preventing waterlogging, thus supporting robust root development in seedlings, flowers, and vegetables. Rich in organic matter, it slowly releases nutrients, buffers pH (acidic, 3.5-4.5), and suppresses weeds and pathogens. For greenhouse or container gardening, it enhances drainage and reduces transplant shock, leading to faster establishment and higher survival rates.
Mix 30-50% with soil or compost for best results. Eco-sourced peatmoss promotes sustainability by reducing peat extraction impacts. It’s ideal for acid-loving plants like blueberries and azaleas, improving bloom quality and fruit acidity. Long-term use builds humus, enhancing overall garden productivity.
